The Cleveland Indians had tried to land a bat before the July trade deadline but things never lined up for the Tribe, as they were left to make a minor move and acquire reliever and former Indian Joe Smith. Many fans immediately were critical of the lack of moves by the team and exclaimed for the need of another bat.

One of the moves the Tribe were trying to make was for New York Mets outfielder Jay Bruce, who was looked into as an option during last year's trade deadline. The time passed and Bruce remained in New York.

Funny how things work.

According to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick, the Indians acquired the three-time All-Star outfielder late Wednesday night.

Bruce is a guy who can change the perception of a game in a hurry. With 29 home runs and 75 RBI's on the year, the slugger is definitely a welcomed addition. The Indians parted ways with reliever Ryder Ryan. Ryan spent this season with the Lake County Captains, logging 41.1 innings in 33 appearances with a 3-4 record and 4.79 ERA. Ryan has only allowed 22 earned runs this season, which is pretty efficient and a main reason that he has been called on a lot from the bullpen.

Ryan transitioned from a position player to a pitcher when he was drafted out of North Carolina, only pitching two innings for the Tar Heels in his two years at school.
