According to reports on Friday afternoon, former Cleveland Indians first baseman Carlos Santana and the Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to a deal.

MLB Insider Jon Heyman reported that the deal had been done and Santana signed for three years for $60 million.

Heyman also mentioned that Santana is the first big position player to go off the board for free agency and him signing a contract for $20 million a year is well above projections.

During the 2017 season, the switch-hitting first baseman played in 154 games, hit .259/.363/.455, had 37 doubles, 3 triples, 23 homers, drove in 79 runs, drew 88 walks, and struck out 94 times. This past season, Santana had a WAR of 3.4.

Santana has played eight seasons in the majors, all with Cleveland. In 1,116 games, he hit .249/.365/.445, had 236 doubles, 13 triples, hit 174 home runs, drove in 587 runs, drew 726 walks, and struck out 812 times.

Santana has a career WAR of 24.5, an offensive WAR (oWAR) of 26.5 and a defensive WAR (dWAR) of -4.8 in his career.

With the news breaking that Santana is now with the Phillies, the Indians will now have to fill the void at first base.
