2024 Guardians Spring Training Players Of The Game: Game 12

Cleveland's Tyler Freeman, Angel Martínez, Tim Herrin, and Triston McKenzie each had a solid game in the team’s 3-3 tie against a Milwaukee Brewers split squad.

The Cleveland Guardians recorded their first 2024 Cactus League tie with a 3-3 draw against a Milwaukee Brewers split squad yesterday afternoon.

With 90 players representing the Guardians during spring training (40-man roster, 22 non-roster invitees, and 28 depth camp players), each game’s roster will vary.

Based on Cleveland’s roster for yesterday’s game and their performances in the contest, here are four Players of the Game.

Tyler Freeman, CF

The 24-year-old put the Guardians on the board in his first at-bat of the day.

His RBI double in the top of the first inning gave him his fourth RBI of the spring, all of which have come in his last three games.

Freeman was the only Cleveland player with a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate, and extended his hitting streak to four games.

Angel Martínez, 3B

Cleveland’s 10th-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline hit a two-out RBI triple in the top of the second inning, which put the Guardians ahead 2-0.

The 22-year-old’s first triple of the spring extended his hitting streak to seven games. In eight games so far this spring, Martínez is hitting an impressive .529 with nine hits, two doubles, two home runs, six RBI, and a whopping 1.644 OPS.

Tim Herrin, LHP

The 27-year-old pitched a perfect bottom of the eighth inning, striking out the side and keeping the game tied at 3-3.

Herrin nearly pitched an immaculate inning, as he threw nine strikes in 12 pitches.

Triston McKenzie, RHP

The 26-year-old had a strong showing in his first start of the spring.

McKenzie pitched two scoreless innings, facing the minimum of six batters. His only blemish was a single allowed in the bottom of the second frame, but the baserunner was eventually caught stealing to end the inning.
