Bubby Rossman Newest Lottery Ticket Arm For New York Mets

The 30-year-old right-hander recently pitched for Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic and flashed an upper-90's fastball.

Just as the Mets have done all winter long, the team has brought in another lottery ticket arm.

Bubby Rossman is the latest low-risk, potentially high reward pitcher to join the organization, according to Michael Mayer of MetsMerized, who reported the news last week.

Rossman, 30, recently pitched for Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic and struck out three batters (including Boston Red Sox star Rafael Devers) over two scoreless innings.

The California native has a live fastball that sits in the upper-90 mph range and a slider that can touch 90, but hangs in the upper-80s.

Rossman made his MLB debut with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022 after originally being drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 22nd round of the 2014 draft.

After a triceps injury while in the minors with Los Angeles, Rossman suffered velocity loss and was released in 2016.

Rossman spent the next several years in independent ball, before getting another chance with the Phillies and ultimately reaching the game’s highest level last season.

While Rossman pitched just one inning in the bigs, he struck out 83 batters in the minor leagues last year, so there’s definitely some upside for the Mets to work with.

Rossman elected free agency after the season, but will now get a chance with New York.

The longtime indy journeyman, Rossman gives the Mets yet another intriguing arm who could potentially impact the big league club this year.

The Mets will need all the help they can get, as their closer Edwin Díaz will likely be sidelined for the entirety of the 2023 season, and one-time Opening Day roster hopefuls Bryce Montes de Oca and Sam Coonrod are slated to be on the shelf for the near future.

The old adage that a team can “never have too much pitching” has already come true for New York, but if you they have enough options to fill the patches, ultimately some will stick.
