The New York Mets got a much-needed win on Thursday, beating the Detroit Tigers. After eight innings of scoring no runs, the Mets scored two in the bottom of the 9th on a Pete Alonso home run and Tyrone Taylor walk-off hit.

New York was on the fence of going 0-5 to start the season and while they didn't do that, concerns are still at an all-time high. This offense hasn't been able to get anything going and if that continues, the Mets will have a worse season than some even imagined.

Getting the first win of the season flips the script a bit, and a series win against the Cincinnati Reds would put them in a fine position moving forward.

For New York, that's their goal moving forward. Alonso understood that for them to get back on track, they needed to beat the Tigers on the second game of the doubleheader, happy he came through in that moment.

“It was one of those [home runs] I felt, ‘Oh, nice,'" Alonso said. "I just saw it keep going and going. It was really fun. We definitely needed that one. I’m just really happy I was able to come through at that moment," Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports.

Carlos Mendoza got his first win as the Mets head coach, an exciting moment for the head coach.

Alonso has been one of the few players in the lineup producing in a positive way. He's slashing .292/.346/.542 with two home runs in 24 at-bats.

With how bad this offense has been during the first six games of the season, Alonso will have to continue taking big swings like he did on Thursday. It's early, but the panic button would've been pressed if they got swept by Detroit. Instead, they have something to build off of and can look to put together a nice stretch in the coming days.
