The Philadelphia Phillies hope this is the summer that outfielder Yhoswar Garcia can start to show his full potential.

With Rookie League action underway, Garcia is with the Florida Complex League Phillies. Per MLB.com he’s the Phillies rookie prospect to keep an eye on as the summer unfolds.

MLB.com put the list together, which features one prospect for each team from their rookie league teams in the Arizona Complex League, the Florida Complex League and the Dominican Summer League. All three league began play in early June.

This isn’t the 21-year-old first go-around in rookie ball. In fact, it’s been a rather dramatic path for Garcia to get to this point, per MLB.com:

Things haven’t gone smoothly for Garcia. He wasn’t able to sign with the Phillies for $2.5 million until March of 2020 because of an age discrepancy, though he was thought to be one of the top prospects in the 2019-20 international market. He’s shown off glimpses of his considerable raw tools, especially his 70-grade speed, but he has yet to find consistency at the plate. A knee injury limited him last year, and while he's touched full-season ball in each of the last three years, the Phillies are hopeful he can find his footing back in the FCL this summer.

He's never hit better than .230 in two previous seasons at rookie ball. But the speed is undeniable. Last year, as he split time with both the FCL and the Phillies’ Class-A team in Clearwater, he stole 32 bases in 37.

When he gets on base he’s a threat. That’s why in spite of the light bat he’s still considered a Top 30 prospect in the system.
