Bryson Stott Could Be Phillies' Most Important Player for Stretch Run

Will Bryson Stott be the most important player for the Philadelphia Phillies down the stretch?

In this story:

The Philadelphia Phillies have been playing some great baseball of late and are charging up the standings. While there have been a ton of good performances by players this month, one player has stood out.

Following another victory on Friday night against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Phillies are now on a seven-game winning streak and have built a ton of momentum over the last week.

To start the second half, things weren’t great for the team. However, they have found their groove now and are playing a complete game. The pitching staff has been really solid for the team, with the backend of the rotation finally giving Philadelphia what they have been looking for.

The combination of Aaron Nola and Andrew Painter has been much-improved, with Nola looking like the front-end of the rotation guy he used to be. Furthermore, while the pitching has been good, so too has been the offense.

This is a lineup that has a ton of talent, and the team is finally getting the most out of some players. One player who has been really good of late for the team is infielder Bryson Stott.

Stott Has Been Key

It has been a strong campaign so far for the young infielder of the Phillies. Stott is having a bit of a breakout campaign so far and, despite moving positions at the trade deadline, has been performing really well.

Due to the team acquiring Luis Arraez, they elected to completely revamp their infield defense, with Stott moving to third base, Alec Bohm going to first base, and Bryce Harper moving into the outfield.

This was a bold decision made by the team, but as shown by the winning streak, it has been paying off. While Stott has done well defensively since the move, it has been his offense that has been good to see.

In August, he has slashed .317/.476/.429 with one home run and 10 RBI. The infielder put together strong months in both June and July, but with an OPS over .900 so far this month, it has been his best to date.

Getting this level of production from Stott has really elevated the offense, and this is a lineup that looks much deeper when he is performing well. As Philadelphia prepares for the stretch run, the 28-year-old is going to be a key piece for the team going forward. If he can perform like he has the last couple of months, the Phillies will be in great shape.
