The Philadelphia Phillies announced on Friday during a media press conference that first baseman Rhys Hoskins will almost certainly undergo surgery and miss the entire 2023 MLB season. However, he will receive a second opinion.

Hoskins collapsed while trying to make a routine play on Thursday in a Grapefruit League game against the Detroit Tigers after suffering a torn ACL.

That has left many wondering in which direction the Phillies will go to replace those at-bats in the lineup and his presence on the field.

President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski said they would be turning to Darick Hall for the majority of the share according to MLB.com.

"I do feel comfortable to say that we like Darick Hall a lot," Dave Dombrowski said. "We feel that he'll get the majority of the playing time at first base... We think he's ready to step up and be a big league player."

Hall is a power hitter who plays an above-average defense at first base. However, he does have some holes in his game, especially when it comes to facing left-handed pitching.

Philadelphia has faith that Hall will be able to develop and turn into a well-rounded MLB player.

We will keep you updated more on Hoskins's injury and any timelines as they are announced.
