In this story:

The Philadelphia Phillies need help in terms of pitching. Ranger Suarez will start the season on the injured list and Andrew Painter has a sprained UCL. While Bailey Falter is one part of the solution, the Phillies need pitching depth.

Enter Matt Strahm.

A former starter, Strahm has far better numbers as a relief pitcher, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Strahm was being stretched out to help with a starting role this spring if needed. And now he is.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, manager Rob Thomson said Strahm will start game five of the season. He will also be available out of the bullpen for Opening Day.

Strahm will be limited to 65-70 pitches during his start, depending on how he feels.

It's not an ideal situation for the Phillies who are hoping to repeat as National League champions this season, but at least there is a contingency plan in place.
