Rangers Slugger Adolis Garcia Leads AL in Homers, Passes Aaron Judge

Texas Rangers right fielder Adolis Garcia leads the American League in home run and MLB in RBI.

Getting a dugout view of Adolis García’s daily exploits makes Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy feel like a fan.

“He’s fun to watch,” Bochy said after Friday night’s 7-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies. “He’s one of those guys that we all pay to go watch him play.”

Luckily, the first-year Texas skipper is getting paid to watch García rake. The right-fielder is on one of the best streaks of his career for the American League West-leading Rangers.

García has homered in a career-high three straight games – four long balls in that stretch – and four of his last five games. He leads the AL in homers, breaking a tie with New York Yankees star and single-season league record holder Aaron Judge (13).

García leads all of baseball with 48 RBI. The Rangers have played just 44 games.

“You just seeing a good hitter in the zone right now,” Bochy said. “He’s so strong. He can hit the ball out of any part of the ballpark. He’s hit balls inches off the plate out. He’s just a really good player, really good hitter. It’s kind of fitting he made that great catch at the end. He’s just a tremendous athlete.”

The three-game homer streak matches the longest for the Rangers this season. Marcus Semien did the same from April 16-18. Ten of García’s home runs have come at Globe Life Field, the most at home in the Majors.

García was part of a team effort in the series opener with Colorado. Seven Rangers hit safely, with Ezequiel Duran and Josh Jung both having multiple hits, and five scored. García, Corey Seager and Jung each had two RBI.

“Throughout the lineup, somebody did something, got a big hit, scored a run, whatever,” Bochy said. “Corey, big hit. You look at what García is doing. That’s pretty impressive. Jung had a nice night. Of course, Duran (had) three hits.”

The Rangers can win the interleague series win Saturday. Jon Gray (3-1, 3.15) starts for Texas, with Kyle Freeland (4-4, 3.16) going for Colorado. First pitch at Globe Life Field is scheduled for at 3:05 p.m.
