Jonathan India, Cincinnati Reds Avoid Arbitration After All
The Cincinnati Reds and former Rookie of the Year Jonathan India have agreed to a two-year contract extension to avoid arbitration.
The Reds signed India for $3.8 million in 2024 and $5 million in 2025, according to reds.com beat reporter Mark Sheldon. He also reported that India can earn up to $2.05 million more for 2025 based on performances and games played this year.
India and the Reds were on a path toward arbitration because they could not come to an agreement here the deadline. India had requested a raise to $4 million while the Reds countered with $3.2 million. Based on that, the 2024 salary would seem to be a compromise with India betting on himself to earn almost twice the next year, if he hits the performance bonuses.
The contract may not necessarily dispense any trade rumors, though it quiets them some. India’s role for the 2024 Reds is still somewhat in the air.
