This is a move that could potentially work out for the New York Yankees in the long-run, as a low-risk, high-reward transaction.

On Tuesday, the Yankees claimed infielder Jordan Groshans off waivers from the Miami Marlins.

Groshans, 24, is a former first-round draft pick, who was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays out of high school at No. 12 overall back in 2018.

The Blue Jays dealt Groshans to the Marlins at the 2022 trade deadline for Anthony Bass, Zach Pop and Edward Duran. At this point, he was assigned to Triple-A.

So far, Groshans only has 17 games of big-league experience, which all came back in 2022 with the Marlins. During this brief stint, the team called him up in September, where he showed some flashes with the bat, slashing .262/.308/.311 with a .619 OPS and his first major league home run. Overall, he collected 16 hits in just 61 at-bats.

The Marlins optioned Groshans to Triple-A at the start of the 2023 season, where he spent the entire campaign. In 125 games, he hit .244/.339/.330 with 6 home runs and 60 RBI.

Miami designated Groshans for assignment last week to make room on their 40-man roster for Jonah Bride.

In order to make room for Groshans, the Yankees designated left-handed pitcher Matt Krook for assignment.
