This star top prospect still needs some more seasoning in the minor leagues before he is ready to receive a call-up to the show.

On Tuesday, the New York Yankees reassigned outfielder Spencer Jones to minor league camp.

But regardless of the demotion, Jones put on a bit of a display during his minimal stay in big-league camp, recording seven hits in just 15 at-bats with a home run as well. He will also likely continue to appear in big-league spring games, despite getting sent to minor league camp.

The future is certainly bright for Jones, who is still only 22-years-old. And there was never an expectation that he would crack the big-league roster out of camp this year, given that he has only played 17 games at the Double-A level.

Jones has a significant portion of development remaining before he is ready for the majors, but the Yankees like what they have seen so far, and value him as a prospect. So much so that earlier in the offseason, the team was unwilling to include the lefty-hitting, former first-round pick as a center piece in a potential blockbuster trade with the Milwaukee Brewers for Cy Young winning ace Corbin Burnes. Not to mention, the Brewers wound up sending Burnes to the Yankees' AL East rivals in the Baltimore Orioles, which hurts them from a competitive standpoint in the short-term. But GM Brian Cashman and the Yankees wanted to focus on the long-term, and what Jones can develop into.

So while Jones, an exciting prospect with a high-ceiling, has a long way to go before he is ready to contribute at the big-league level, the future appears to be bright for the youngster. He also provides long-term insurance in the Yankees' outfield should they lose superstar Juan Soto to free agency next winter.
