Shooto Tradition 5 to kick off '09

Shooto has announced its first big event for 2009, as Shooto Tradition 5 will emanate from the Tokyo Differ Ariake on Jan. 18.

The first bouts announced feature Shooto Pacific Rim welterweight champion Yusuke Endo taking on Dream veteran Koutetsu Boku in a non-title fight.

Boku hasn't fought since losing in the first round of the Dream lightweight tournament to eventual champion Joachim Hansen. Endo's last fight saw him become the Shooto Pacific Rim welterweight champion at Shooto Tradition 2, defeating Kenichiro Togashi by decision.

Dream veteran Junya "Kodo" Kudo returns to Shooto after a failed bid in Dream. He will face off with Takahiro Hosoi.

Former Shooto title contender Jin Akimoto continues to seek his first victory since coming back from retirement, as he takes on the dynamic Ayumu "Gozo" Shioda.
