The much anticipated rematch between Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and current light heavyweight champion Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida is set to take place May 1 in Montreal. Word of the confirmation was first reported by Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports and later confirmed by the UFC president Dana White.

Shogun and Machida first met this past October at UFC 104, where Machida was awarded a unanimous cecision victory -- each judge scored the bout 48-47. Many MMA fans disputed the decision, claiming Shogun did enough to deserve the decision victory and be crowned the new UFC light heavyweight champion.

Before both men had left Staples Center in Los Angeles, they had verbally agreed to a rematch in the near future. However, the process has been delayed after it was reported that Machida had injured his hand.

Machida (16-0) has been well known for implementing a sound and effective game plan to stop opponents. However, his win over Rua is still causing an uproar because according to many in the MMA comunity -- including White -- , Machida's performance did not warrant a victory.

Regardless of the outcome in their first meeting, Machida and Rua, the top two fighters in their division, will undoubtedly put on a rematch worth watching.
