After nearly a year and a half out of action because of a torn ACL, No. 1 women's bantamweight contender Cat Zingano finally has a date set for her return.
Zingano (8-0) will fight again on Sept. 27 at UFC 178 against Amanda Nunes (9-3).
Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports first reported the news, before UFC officials confirmed the booking.
Zingano was last inside the Octagon during a brutal victory over Miesha Tate. The win was supposed to set Zingano up with a head coaching gig on the 18th season of Ultimate Fighter, but the torn ACL occurred just before filming. She was forced off of the show and had to give up her title shot.
Nunes is unbeaten in the UFC, with two first-round finishes by way of knockout.
It will be no easy task for Zingano in her first bout back in action, but a win would earn her the title shot she has been hoping for since making a splash onto the UFC scene.
UFC 178 will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, with a highly anticipated rematch between UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and top contender Alexander Gustafsson. Also on the card is another long-awaited return to action, with former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz ending a nearly three-year layoff to take on Takeya Mizugaki.
