Report: Holm-Tate, McGregor-dos Anjos booked for UFC 197 on March 5
UFC 197 will take place on March 5 in Las Vegas, with Holly Holm set to fight Miesha Tate and Conor McGregor taking on Rafael dos Anjos, reports Jeremy Botter of Bleacher Report.
An official announcement from the UFC is forthcoming. Holm’s wish to fight before rematching with Ronda Rousey will be granted as she defends her bantamweight title against Tate. McGregor, who wowed with his hasty takedown of Jose Aldo in December to win the featherweight belt, will fight for the lightweight title against dos Anjos.
Scheduling Holm’s fight is somewhat of a risk for the UFC, given that in the event she loses her title matching her up against Rousey in what will be a highly anticipated fight could be more difficult and feature lower stakes, at least initially. Tate has won four straight fights and could present a test for the new champion.
McGregor can become the third man ever to hold UFC titles in two different weight divisions with a win over dos Anjos, and the first ever to hold two UFC titles simultaneously.
The two fights will reportedly be co-main events.
