UFC 200: Jose Aldo defeats Frankie Edgar to win interim title

While Conor McGregor pursues fights in other divisions, the UFC decided to put an interim featherweight title on the line at UFC 200 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Jose Aldo, the man McGregor dethroned for the belt at UFC 194, was selected to fight contender Frankie Edgar for the strap, setting up a title unification bout later this year with The Notorious.
Edgar came in as the aggressor and was the fighter pushing forward for the majority of the fight. Aldo used his elusiveness to avoid Edgar's attacks and using the counter as his offense and it worked to the letter. Aldo didn't throw as many strikes but landed significantly more, and causing more damage in the process.

It was the second round when Edgar started bleeding from above the right eye and the third when he started bleeding from the nose. Edgar continued to push forward and just ate more shots as the fight drew on.
Ultimately it went to decision and Aldo was declared the winner, and new interim champion, winning four out of five rounds on two cards and three out of five on the third.
But looming in the background of the fight the whole time was McGregor, eagerly watching and waiting to learn who his new challenger would be.
Aldo addressed McGregor's presence in his post-fight interview in the cage, saying the newly won interim title meant nothing and he wanted McGregor, pointing to the champ.
McGregor fights at UFC 202 at the end of August, we'll see if he returns to fight Aldo after his bout with Nate Diaz.
