Lena Ovchynnikova vs. Jaimelene Nievera added to Bellator 160

A flyweight bout between Lena Ovchynnikova and Jaimelene Nievera has been added to the main card of Bellator 160.

Bellator 160 is shaping up to be a stacked card and now another fight has been added. According to a source close to the promotion, Lena Ovchynnikova (11–4) and Jaimelene Nievera (4–1) will fight in a flyweight bout. The event will be held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., on Aug. 26th, and the main card, which includes this bout, will air on Spike TV.

The fight is Nivera’s second in Bellator, as she defeated Stephanie Frausto via TKO in the third round at Bellator 154. Ovchynnikova is an accomplished kickboxer and makes her first appearance at the promotion since her loss to Rebecca Ruth at Bellator 150 in February.

UFC 201: Chaos continues to reign as title belts change hands

In May at Bellator 155, the promotion tried to have an inaugural featherweight title fight between former Strikeforce champion MarloesCoenen and Julia Budd, but the bout never came to fruition after an injury forced Budd off the card. Monday’s news is the latest step by the promotion to expand into women’s MMA.

Bellator 160 is headlined by a bout between former former UFC lightweight champion and WEC lightweight champion Benson Henderson and former Bellator featherweight champion Patricio Freire.
