UFC 205 weigh-in results: Missed weight causes drama, pulls fight from card

All the weigh-in results from UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden, when Conor McGregor faces Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight title.

The biggest fight card of the year is almost here: UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden. Coverage begins Saturday on FS1—or streamed live via the Fox Sports Go app—with the Prefight Show at 7 p.m. ET, followed by the preliminary bouts at 8 p.m.

On Friday, all fighters on the historic UFC 205 card at Madison Square Garden stepped on the scale to weigh in ahead of Saturday night's fights. This records the fighter's official weight for the bout, and later the fighters will step on the scale in front of a live crowd.

The casual fan's guide to UFC 205

Fighters in championship bouts must be at their weight classes' weight limit or under. Those competing in non-title fights are allowed one pound over the limit. New York state rules also say that two fighters need to be within a certain number of pounds of one another to fight, even if the other misses weight, though the commission didn't clarify whether it was a standard five pounds for all divisions or a sliding scale depending on weight class. This came into play twice during the early weigh-ins on Friday.

Thiago Alves weighed in at 162.6 pounds for his lightweight (155 pounds) fight, so Jim Miller, who was on weight, had to put on weight to keep the fight on the card. Donald Cerrone weighed in at 170.4 pounds first, but his opponent Kelvin Gastelum was over weight. Gastelum reportedly was weighing around 180 pounds and ultimately didn't weigh in because he wouldn't be able to get within five pounds of Cerrone. The fight was pulled from the card. Had Gastelum weighed in first, or informed Cerrone first thing in the morning, Cerrone could have intentionally weighed in over 170 pounds to keep the fight on the card.
