Former UFC Champ Francis Ngannou Signs With the PFL

The PFL announced an “exclusive global MMA strategic partnership” with Francis Ngannou, giving a home to the biggest name on the free agent market.

Ngannou’s MMA career will take place exclusively in the PFL’s new PPV Super Fight Division. The former UFC heavyweight champion adds a massive name to the division, though it will be some time before he makes his debut, as the PFL announced his first fight will take place in mid-2024.

PFL appealed to Ngannou for opportunities outside the cage, too. The new deal puts him in a leadership role on the PFL Global Advisory Board, becoming the first active fighter to serve on the board and represent fighters’ interests. Ngannou will also be an equity owner in and Chairman of PFL Africa.

In the official press release announcing his signing, Ngannou stated, “I am very excited for this game changing partnership with the Professional Fighters League to continue my MMA fighting career in the PFL’s PPV Super Fight Division. I believe in the PFL’s ‘fighter first’ culture and global vision including developing the sport in Africa. With that, I am also proud to announce that I will serve as Chairman of PFL Africa which will be the leading MMA organization on the continent providing great African fighters the opportunity to compete on a global platform.”

Ngannou’s signing all but removes the possibility of a fight against UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Boxing remains a possibility for his future.
