MOSCOW (AP) -- Russian hammer thrower Kirill Ikonnikov has been suspended after failing a drug test.

He finished fifth at the London Olympics and sixth at last year's world championships in Daegu, South Korea.

Russia's anti-doping agency RUSADA says Ikonnikov tested positive for an unidentified banned substance Oct. 8. The test was carried at the request of the International Association of Athletics Federations.

Ikonnikov has been suspended pending further investigation since Nov. 2.
