Why Hibbert didn't shake hands
Upon the conclusion of their Eastern Conference final, most of the Pacers made their way over to the Heat to congratulate them for advancing. But there were two players who had zero interest in shaking hands with the team they'll continue to chase as long as LeBron James is on the Heat. ... [Roy Hibbert and David West] weren't interested with shaking hands, giving daps or giving hugs to the Heat. For West, it's simple. He's old school. ... For Hibbert, it was different. He's never played with any of the Heat players. He respects them, but it wasn't the time to be crashing their party. Collie willing to sign waiver to play
So far, so good for Austin Collie, who says he feels "phenomenal" while rehabbing after knee surgery. But Collie, a 6-foot, 204-pound free agent looking for a team, was asked about that other medical issue that threatens to end his NFL career. ... The former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver has had three of them, and at a time when thousands of players are suing the NFL over head injuries, employing Collie might be considered a liability. Collie, however, dismissively rolled his eyes at the mere suggestion. At 27, he is willing to risk permanent brain injury for one last shot. "I'll sign a waiver, all right?" he said. "They're not going to have to worry about me suing. I'll hold myself to be accountable." (USA Today)Comment
Yankees owner takes his shots at A-Rod
A day after Brian Cashman admitted Alex Rodriguez probably wasn't going to live up to his deal, the third basemen endured more criticism from Hal Steinbrenner. "There have no doubt been times when we've been disappointed in him and we've conveyed that to him," the owner said [Monday]. "He understands that. Everybody's human. Everybody makes mistakes." ... With four years and $86 million remaining on his contract after this season, Steinbrenner knows the Yankees can't afford for Rodriguez to be a completely sunk cost. "He knows what we expect from him," Steinbrenner said. "He knows what his teammates expect from him. We just hope he comes back strong. We need all the help we can get." (New York Post)Comment
