Brittney Griner has been suspended by USA Basketball for the start of training camp, reports Yahoo's Marc Spears.

The suspension will cause Griner to miss 20% of the team's preparation ahead of a European tour that includes games against Spain, Italy and the Czech Republic in the coming weeks.

Griner's punishment is due to her arrest in April following a physical altercation with then-fiancée Glory Johnson, for which the 24-year-old pled guilty to disorderly conduct. She was subsequently ordered to complete 26 weeks of domestic violence counseling, which she received throughout the summer and will soon finish.

The charges against Griner will be dropped following her completion of the counseling.

“I accept USA Basketball's decision and will honor the suspension,” Griner, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 WNBA draft, told The Associated Press.

The Phoenix Mercury center was also suspended by the WNBA for the first seven games of the 2015 season.

Following her suspension, Griner went on to capture her second consecutive WNBA Defensive Player of the Year award.
