Video shows Pennsylvania high school coach headbutting referee

During a game on Tuesday, a man identified by The Philadelphia Inquirer as Neshaminy (Pa.) High School basketball coach Jerry Devine headbutted a referee.

In a five-second video obtained by City Of Basketball Love, Devine steps onto the floor during a game against Pennsbury to argue with one official, then turns to headbutt another and knocks him to the ground.

Emily Babay of Philly.com reports that the high school is reviewing the altercation. According to the school, Devine has been placed on “administrative leave pending the outcome of that review for both his teaching and coaching positions.“

According to the school’s website, Devine has coached the school’s boys basketball team for 10 years and teaches history and algebra courses.

City Of Basketball Love reported that following the altercation, Devine was ejected from the gymnasium.

Middletown Township police chief Joe Bartorilla said that his department is investigating whether a crime was committed.
