Gary Payton was to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Sept. 8. Payton made nine All-Star teams and nine All-Defensive first teams during his 17-year career, the first 12-plus of which were spent in Seattle, where he led the SuperSonics to the 1996 NBA Finals. The Glove, who starred at Oregon State before Seattle made him the No. 2 pick in the 1990 draft, also won an NBA title with the 2006-07 Heat and had late-career stints with Milwaukee, the Lakers and Boston.
