Video: Blazers' Dorell Wright hits game-winning three-pointer to beat Kings
Blazers forward Dorell Wright hit a game-winning three-pointer from the left corner with seven seconds left to beat the Kings 100-99 in Portland on Wednesday.
With less than 15 seconds remaining in regulation and Sacramento leading 99-97, Damian Lillard set up a high pick-and-roll with LaMarcus Aldridge. As he slowly turned the corner around DeMarcus Cousins going right, Lillard found Reggie Evans camping out in the paint, clogging up the middle. Lillard was stuck without a clear path to pass to Aldridge and a poor shooting angle, so he elected to skip the ball to the left corner, where Wright was waiting wide open.
The pass was low, but Wright caught it cleanly and rose directly into his shooting motion. Evans couldn't close out in time, and Wright buried the open look.
Sacramento's Ray McCallum missed a jumper on the other end and Portland held on for the one-point victory.
Wright told reporters afterwards that it was his first game-winner since high school. As it turned out, the shot was also Wright's only made field goal of the game, as he finished with three points (on 1-for-5 shooting), four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
LaMarcus Aldridge led the Blazers with 22 points (on 9-for-20 shooting), eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Damian Lillard and Wesley Matthews added 19 points each in the victory.
DeMarcus Cousins paced the Kings with a game-high 30 points (on 14-for-29 shooting), 12 rebounds, and three steals. McCallum added 23 points (on 7-for-15 shooting), eight assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Portland improved to 51-28 with the win. Sacramento dropped to 27-52 with the loss.
