Commissioner Adam Silver said Atlanta Hawks GM Danny Ferry should not be fired for his comments about Luol Deng, according to Sam Amick of USA Today.
Silver called the comments "clearly inappropriate and unacceptable" but added, "In my view, those comments, taken alone, do not merit his losing his job."
Ferry allegedly made racially insensitive comments about Deng during a conference call with franchise ownership in June.
Ferry said in a statement that he was "repeating comments that were gathered from numerous sources during background conversations and scouting about different players."
Silver said that, given the circumstances Ferry described, "I don't think it's a terminable offense."
