Video: Pelicans' Omer Asik tips in 'own goal' buzzer-beater in OT loss to Spurs

Pelicans center Omer Asik appeared to accidentally tip a buzzer-beating basket into his own hoop during New Orleans' 95-93 overtime loss to San Antonio.

This was a classic "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" sequence for Asik, who was acquired by New Orleans for a first-round pick in an offseason trade.

With 0.7 seconds remaining in regulation and the Pelicans leading by two, the Spurs attempted a sideline lob play to Tim Duncan. Both Asik and Duncan rose to greet the pass, but Asik appeared to bat the ball into his own basket with his left hand in the tussle. Duncan, of course, was credited with the basket that forced overtime and he did appear to make some contact with the ball and/or Asik's hand during the sequence.

Duncan and Manu Ginobili combined for 10 of San Antonio's 11 points in overtime, as the Spurs closed 2014 with a win to improve to 20-14. Duncan posted 16 points (on 6-for-12 shooting), 10 rebounds, five assists and three blocks in the win. Ginobili led all scorers with 26 points (on 9-for-17 shooting).

Sadly, Asik finished with just three points (on 0-for-2 shooting) and 12 rebounds in the loss. Yes, his "own goal" was the only basket he made all night. Anthony Davis tallied a team-high 21 points (on 8-for-12 shooting) and 12 rebounds. New Orleans dropped to 16-16.

Asik's unfortunate play comes one day after Florida lost to Florida State on a buzzer-beating "own goal" tip.
