Pelicans PF Anthony Davis (groin) to miss game vs. Clippers
New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Daviswill not play in Friday night's game against the Los Angeles Clipper because of a groin injury.
A team press release notes that Davis sustained the injury during Wednesday's loss to the Denver Nuggets.
“He won’t play tonight,” coach Monty Williams said. “He had some soreness this morning. He tried to work out in shootaround [but] we didn’t like what we saw. I have to be his brains in a situation like this -- he wants to play, but like I saw the other night, the want-to [was] in his eyes, but the can-do is totally different right now. We felt like a few more days of rest will help him get ready for the next game [against Atlanta on Monday].”
Davis missed three games with a sprained toe earlier this month.
Over 42 games this season, he has averaged 24.5 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.9 blocks and 1.7 assists while shooting 55.5 percent from the field and posting a career-high 31.9 Player Efficiency Rating.
The 21-year-old was recently named a starter for the All-Star game.
New Orleans (24-22) enters Friday trailing the Phoenix Suns by 2.5 games for the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. Williams reportedly said that he wants Davis to try to return to action on Monday against the Atlanta Hawks.
