Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside has been suspended one game for elbowing Boston Celtics center Kelly Olynyk during Monday’s game, the league announced on Tuesday.

Whiteside was ejected after elbowing Olynyk in the back of the neck during the third quarter of the Heat’s loss to the Celtics. Last week, Whiteside was ejected and fined $20,000 after tackling Phoenix Suns center Alex Len.

On Tuesday, Whiteside apologized to his teammates for his actions.

“I feel terrible about it,” Whiteside said. “I feel like I let my team down, it can’t happen again. I just want to apologize to everybody.

After playing overseas the previous two seasons, Whiteside has emerged as a key player for the Heat this year. In 35 games, he has averaged 10.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks.

The Heat are 28-35 and a half-game behind the Charlotte Hornets for the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. Whiteside will miss Wednesday's game against the Brooklyn Nets as a result of the suspension.
