Hawks beat Heat, clinch Eastern Conference's top playoff seed

Saturday March 28th, 2015

The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Miami Heat on Friday 99-86 behind 24 points from DeMarre Carroll to clinch the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

The Hawks clinched the number one seed with help from an unlikely source: the Brooklyn Nets, who upended Cleveland to send the Cavaliers to a 47-27 record and make the evening sour for LeBron James-led teams past and present.

Dwyane Wade, who missed the Heat's previous game with a swollen knee, scored 13 points. Miami currently sits in seventh place in the Eastern Conference.

Atlanta, 55-17, will play the Hornets in Charlotte on Sunday with just nine regular season games remaining.
