Thieves steal $40,000 in equipment from NBA film crew near Oracle Arena

Friday June 5th, 2015

East Oakland thieves smashed the windows of an NBA Entertainment van parked Tuesday near the Golden Warriors' Oracle Arena and made off with more than $40,000 in equipment in the middle of the afternoon, according to a San Jose Mercury-News report

A camera crew working for NBA Entertainment had parked in parking lot across from a Panda Express and went in to eat around 2 pm. When they returned 20 minutes later the crew had discovered that thieves took five laptops, cell phones and cameras, as well as other personal items.

Area police said Thursday they plan to increase patrols in areas media and tourists are expected to frequent during Sunday's Game 2 of the NBA Finals, as well as further games in the series that may take place in Oakland.

Golden State won Game 1 of the series Thursday night in overtime, 108–100. The two teams will face off in Game 2  Sunday  at 8 p.m. ET.
