First round of 2015 NBA draft features record-setting 13 freshmen

The first round of Thursday night's NBA draft featured 13 freshman selections, more than any previous two rounds of an NBA draft has ever featured, according to ESPN.

The previous record for total freshman drafted was 12, set in the 2008 draft.

Thursday night's top three picks—Karl-Anthony Towns, D'Angelo Russell and Jahlil Okafor—each played only one year of collegiate basketball, as did Detroit Pistons selection Stanley Johnson and Miami Heat pick Justise Winslow.

The draft would have had 14 freshman had Southern Methodist University recruit and Denver Nuggets No. 7 selection Emmanuel Mudiay not de-committed from the program and opted to play professional basketball in China in 2014.

No. 15: (Atlanta Hawks) Kelly Oubre Jr., Kansas

No. 17: (Milwaukee Bucks) Rashad Vaughn, UNLV

No. 24: (Cleveland Cavaliers) Tyus Jones, Duke

No. 29: (Brooklyn Nets) Chris McCullough, Syracuse
