Pistons sign first-round pick Stanley Johnson

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) The Detroit Pistons have signed Stanley Johnson, their first-round draft pick.

The Pistons took Johnson with the No. 8 pick last month. The Arizona star is expected to compete for playing time at small forward for Detroit.

Johnson played one season at Arizona, averaging 13.8 points and 6.5 rebounds in 2014-15. The 6-foot-7, 245-pound Johnson was the Pac-12 freshman of the year. That was after an impressive high school career at Mater Dei in Santa Ana, California.
