New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony spoke to the media for the first time since April on Tuesday and was asked for his impression on rookie Kristaps Porzingis.

Anthony told reporters that Porzingis, the No. 4 pick in June's draft, is “down-to-earth” and “humble,” then commented on the rookie's drive.

“You can tell he has a chip on his shoulder, and I love that,” said Anthony. “You've gotta have that in the NBA. That was the first thing I saw when I saw him working out. He's a tough guy.”

After the Knicks drafted Porzingis, reports surfaced that Anthony was unhappy with the team's draft decisions. Anthony later responded by calling Porzingis a “steal” on Instagram, and on Tuesday he denied the draft night rumors, saying “I didn't say none of that s---.”

MAHONEY: Kristaps Porzingis has room to grow, much to offer NBA

New York's selection of the Latvian big man was met with a mixed reaction, including disappointment from some Knicks fans. Many scouts believe Porzingis might need two or three years of developing before he becomes a regular contributor for New York.
