The Dallas Mavericks have signed free-agent center JaVale McGee, the team announced Thursday

The deal is for two years at the veteran’s minimum, with a team option for the second year, ESPN’s Marc Stein reports

McGee, 27, is entering his eighth year in the NBA. He played 17 games for the Denver Nuggets last season, averaging 5.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 11.5 minutes per game. The Nuggets traded him to Philadelphia 76ers in February, who waived him after six games.

The Mavs will hope McGee bolsters a frontcourt that has gone through massive upheaval this off-season. Dallas lost Tyson Chandler to the Phoenix Suns after he signed a four-year, $52 million deal and intended to bring in DeAndre Jordan to replace him, though Jordan opted to re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers

Dallas has now added three centers this summer. Zaza Pachuliawas acquired in a trade and Samuel Dalembert returned as a free agent after spending part of last season with the New York Knicks.
