Pelicans center Omer Asik out three weeks with calf strain
New Orleans Pelicans center Omer Asik will miss three weeks with a calf strain.
Pelicans center Omer Asik will miss three weeks with a calf strain, the team announced Thursday.
New Orleans is now without its two top centers after backup Alexis Ajinca injured his hamstring on Saturday, keeping him out four to six weeks. Kendrick Perkins is the only healthy pure center left on the roster, meaning power forward Anthony Davis could be forced to play the center position.
Asik played 76 games for the Pelicans last season, all starts, and was the team’s second-leading rebounder. He averaged 7.3 points and 9.8 rebounds in 26.1 minutes per game.
The Pelicans open the regular season on Oct. 27 on the road against the Warriors.
