Matt Barnes: ‘Derek Fisher wanted to run and tell the cops and NBA’
Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes commented Monday about an October altercation with New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Ben Bolch.
“We’re two grown men who should have handled two grown men’s business,” Barnes said Monday. “But [Fisher] wanted to run and tell the cops and NBA.”
Barnes and Fisher were involved in a physical confrontation on Oct. 7 at the home that Barnes shared with his estranged wife, the New York Postreported.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reported that Barnes traveled from Santa Barbara, where the Grizzlies training camp was located, to Los Angeles and arrived at the home. It was then that Barnes confronted Fisher in his estranged wife’s backyard, and the alteration “escalated from there, into the kitchen and then the home’s front room.”
Barnes and Fisher are former teammates with the Los Angeles Lakers.
