Dwyane Wade misses Heat win against Jazz due to son in hospital

Miami Heat shooting guard Dwyane Wade did not play in Thursday night’s game against the Utah Jazz, the team announced.

Wade instead was with his son, who was hospitalized. No details were given regarding his son’s condition, but the announcement assured that he will be fine. Wade has two sons and custody of a nephew. Miami didn’t specify which son is hospitalized.

He released a statement via Twitter following the Heat’s 92–91 victory.

“I didn’t play 2nite because being a Father comes 1st for me but thankfully everyone is OK. so thanks 4 your concerns and prayers. Much love.”

Chris Bosh scored 25 points to lead Miami against Utah. Rookie Josh Richardson, who started for Wade and was the 40th pick in this year’s draft, added eight points in his first career start. The Heat won their third straight game and improved to 6–3.

Wade has had a good start to the season. He is averaging 18 points, 4.4 assists and shooting 37.5% from three over eight games. Jazz center Rudy Gobert missed the game as well with a left ankle sprain, Utah announced.
