Report: Sixers rookie Jahlil Okafor to be accompanied by security guard

After a series of off-court incidents, 76ers rookie Jahlil Okafor will “be accompanied by a security guard whenever he goes out,” ESPN’s Chris Broussard reports.

After a series of off-court incidents, 76ers rookie Jahlil Okafor will “be accompanied by a security guard whenever he goes out,” ESPN’s Chris Broussard reports

The center’s “handlers” requested that the team provide Okafor with someone to look after him, Broussard adds.

The decision comes after Okafor was involved in at least four off-court incidents. He reportedly had a gun pointed at him during an altercation at a Philadelphia bar in October, was allegedly involved in a fight at a Boston nightclub last week, was arrested for driving 108 mph on a Philadelphia bridge and reportedly tried to use fake identification at a bar in October.

Despite the trouble away from the floor, Okafor is having a good rookie season for the Sixers. He has started all 18 games and is averaging 17.5 points per game, more than any other rookie.

Okafor was selected with the third pick in this year’s draft after one season at Duke.
