Jazz center Rudy Gobert has been ruled out indefinitely after spraining his left MCL, the team announced Wednesday.

Gobert was injured during Wednesday’s practice and underwent an MRI shortly afterward. He will not need surgery, but no timetable was given for his return.

The 7'1" Gobert has continued to anchor a stingy Utah defense this season, averaging 2.6 blocks per game to go with 9.2 points and 10.9 rebounds. Trevor Booker and rookie Trey Lyles have been the team’s main reserve big men, with Derrick Favors having a terrific season starting at power forward.

The Jazz are 8–8 after narrowly losing to the undefeated Warriors on Monday and next face the Magic on Thursday, followed by the Pacers on Saturday.
