Wade, Heat beat Nets for third straight victory

NEW YORK (AP) When Dwyane Wade and the Heat come to Brooklyn, they usually come away with a win.

Wade scored 10 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter, Hassan Whiteside added 20 points and 13 rebounds, and the Heat beat the Nets 104-98 on Wednesday night for their third straight victory.

Miami has won five in a row against Brooklyn and 11 of the last 13 meetings on the road.

''Dwyane had a real pep in his step. This is what he's built his career on,'' Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. ''He had the full pie chart going.''

Goran Dragic added 16 points, Gerald Green had 13 and Justise Winslow scored 11 for Miami.

Brook Lopez scored 25 and Jarrett Jack had 22 points and 10 assists for the Nets, who lost the final three games of their six-game homestand.

The Heat led by 11 points on Wade's basket with 5:14 left in the third quarter, but the Nets pulled within 86-85 on Donald Sloan's three-point play with 7:31 left in the game.

The Heat then went on an 11-2 run, capped by another basket by Wade with 4:09 remaining.

The Nets cut it to 101-98 when Jack made three free throws with 1:01 left. However, Wade countered with a floater with 43 seconds remaining.

''You never know,'' Wade said. ''Last game I got so many great shots in Atlanta and couldn't knock them down. I told my teammates if I get those same shots versus Brooklyn, they're going in.''

Thaddeus Young missed a reverse layup on the Nets' next possession. Wade got the rebound and Brooklyn did not commit a foul. Miami ran the clock down and Dragic missed on a 3-pointer with 12 seconds left and Jack did the same with 7 seconds remaining.

Dragic closed out the scoring on a free throw with 5 seconds left.

''I told them to foul. I mean, come on,'' coach Lionel Hollins said. ''You got to foul.''

The Nets made their first five shots and took a 26-16 lead on Bojan Bogdanovic's 3-pointer with 2:49 left in the first quarter. Miami rallied and took the lead for good at 44-42 on Green's 3-pointer with 4:58 left in the first half.

The Heat then took a 55-50 halftime lead on Dragic's coast-to-coast layup with less than a second left.

''They are a veteran bunch. They stay the course,'' Jack said. ''We hit them in the mouth early, but they weathered the storm. They still have that championship pedigree in that locker room.

Wayne Ellington finished with 12 points and Andrea Bargnani had 10 for Brooklyn.

TIP-INS:

Heat: Miami last lost to Brooklyn on April 8, 2014. . The Heat have hit at least one 3-pointer in 297 consecutive games, the third-longest streak in team history.

Nets: Shane Larkin, who sustained a concussion at the Nets' practice on Tuesday and has not yet been cleared to play, missed his first game of the season on Wednesday. . The Nets' six-game homestand was its longest since playing six straight as the New Jersey Nets from March 4-17, 2011.

Wade, who said he ''couldn't talk when I woke up..but there was nothing wrong with my body,'' shot 13 of 17 from the field, including 5 for 6 in the fourth quarter.

NEW YORK STATE OF MIND

The Nets have concluded a stretch of nine consecutive games played in New York City. The streak started with two home games in Brooklyn, a road game in Manhattan against the Knicks, and then six more games in Brooklyn.
