Austin Rivers suffers sprained right ankle in Clippers’ loss at Rockets
Los Angeles Clippers guard Austin Rivers left the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 107–97 loss to the Houston Rockets with a sprained right ankle, the team announced.
Rivers drove into the paint late in the game and pulled up awkwardly after planting his right foot, falling to the ground in pain for a minute before being helped off the floor.
Clippers head coach Doc Rivers, Austin’s father, told reporters the team initially feared the injury was a torn Achilles, but that it was likely a second or third degree ankle sprain. Rivers has yet to have an X-ray on the ankle.

The 23-year-old Rivers finished with two points on 1-of-5 shooting in 16 minutes. He has averaged 7.2 points and 1.3 assists in a reserve role this season.

The Clippers dropped to 16–12 after falling to the Rockets, who memorably ousted them from last season’s playoffs after L.A. led the Western Conference semifinals 3–1.
