Boris Diaw earns ‘tea time’ nickname, casually scores 20 vs. Rockets
Boris Diaw scored 20 points in Saturday’s Spurs win over the Rockets, and has a new nickname.
Michael Erier of SB Nation tweeted Saturday that LaMarcus Aldridge—star free-agent signee and one of the Spurs’ newest members—has dubbed Diaw, the veteran, savvy Frenchman “tea time,” because of how casually easy he can make the game look at times.
This is a new development. Aside from being a great indicator of how well Aldridge has meshed with the Spurs, who are tied for the best start in franchise history through 35 games at 29–6, it’s a new way to appreciate Diaw, who’s long been one of the NBA’s best passing big men and often goes underappreciated given the big names surrounding him in the lineup.

So let us appreciate Boris (who also had eight rebounds and two assists), and gaze at some highlights to end the night. The Spurs, by the way, are now 20–0 at home and scored a season-high 121 points against the Rockets, who managed 103.
Here’s Diaw leisurely nabbing a steal in transition, and running the floor to eventually score a layup.

He’s also pretty good down low.

Diaw got quite, quite open here, and took his time stroking in a three.

You know it’s a good night when even Kawhi Leonard looks happy.
