The quotable Doc Rivers was in form on Friday night with regard to Blake Griffin’s broken hand, which came after punching Clippers equipment manager Matias Testi at a restaurant.

“You have to forgive people at some point. I believe that. We built Richard Nixon a library,” Rivers told reporters before L.A.’s game against the Lakers, asking for forgiveness on the matter. He also said that Griffin and Testi, who are friends, had talked since the incident.

Griffin was nearing a return from a torn quadriceps before the punch left him with the hand injury. The Clippers have fared well in his absence, but their playoff hopes without their star player are slim, and the exact timetable for his return remains unclear.
