NBA investigation of Griffin to end soon, likely result in discipline

An NBA investigation into a fight involving Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin on Jan. 23 will conclude soon, commissioner Adam Silver tellsUSA TODAY Sports.

The investigation could result in Griffin being disciplined for punching team equipment manager, Matias Testi, which resulted in Griffin sustaining a broken hand. Griffin and Testi would both be interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.

“I'd say from the league's standpoint, of course it's the last thing that you want to see happen,” SIlver toldUSA Today. “And whether it's in the NBA, or in any industry, you have one co-worker, in essence, punching another co-worker. That's a terrible thing. Blake has acknowledged that. But at the same time, I know he recognizes that there are consequences of his actions.”

Griffin underwent surgery on his fractured right hand and is expected to be out for 4–6 weeks.

He issued a statement last week apologizing for the altercation.

“A situation among friends escalated and I regret the way I handled myself towards someone I care about,” Griffin wrote on Twitter. “I want to apologize to the Clippers organization, my teammates and the fans for creating a distraction.”
