MRI reveals left knee strain, no tear for Bulls’ All-Star Jimmy Butler

An MRI revealed Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler sustained a left knee strain and not a ligament tear against the Denver Nuggets.

An MRI on Saturday confirmed that Chicago Bulls guard Jimmy Butler sustained a left knee strain against the Denver Nuggets, the team announced. Butler didn’t tear any ligaments and his recovery timetable depends on his response to treatment.

The injury occurred late in the second quarter against the Nuggets on Friday night when Butler drove hard to the rim and was bumped midair. Butler crashed to the floor and landed awkwardly. He laid on the floor for several moments, grabbing at his left knee.

Butler remained in the game to shoot his two free throws and managed to sink both attempts at the line before hobbling to a wheelchair-like cart awaiting him on the baseline.

Butler was carted to the locker room, reportedly in good spirits.

Denver won the game 115–110. Butler scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds in 18 minutes.
