Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony surprised by Derek Fisher firing
New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony opened up about the firing of coach Derek Fisher on Tuesday, telling Chris Herring of the Wall Street Journal that the entire team was surprised by the move.
“I don't know if it was a quick decision, or it was lingering. Not even trying to figure that part out,” Anthony said. “But everybody found out, the players, around the same time yesterday morning.”

While the move came out of the blue for Anthony, the veteran does not seem like he is thinking about the situation that much. Fisher is the fourth coach that has been fired since Anthony joined the Knicks in 2011, and he said that firings have just become part of the business.
“You become, I don’t wanna say numb to it, but you understand that it’s part of the business. This is the bad part of the business. But these things happen.”
Anthony made it clear that he respects Fisher as a player and coach, and said he has spoken to his former coach since the news broke.

Fisher addressed his firing on Tuesday, taking to Twitter to thank the Knicks organization for the opportunity.
Fisher went 23–31 to start the season with New York. He posted a 40–96 record since being hired by Phil Jackson before the 2014–15 season.
The Knicks are currently 12th in the Eastern Conference standings.
