Mike Krzyzewski ‘fully expected’ to coach Olympic team

Surgery won't keep Coach K from Olympics

USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said Thursday that he believes Mike Krzyzewski will be the head coach when the team competes at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Colangelo’s statement comes a day after he said the Duke head coach’s health was in the back of his mind while looking ahead to the Olympics.

“Certainly in the back of my mind I’m thinking about what ifs,” Colangelo said Wednesday.

Krzyzewski has been dealing with knee issues this season an plans to have knee replacement surgery immediately after the conclusion of the college basketball season.

The coach also reaffirmed his intention to coach the team Thursday.
